Girlguiding UK has a number of roles that
provide core support. Some also contribute to the decision-making
process and development of the Association.
Patron
The Council may invite individuals to become Patrons of
Girlguiding UK. There can be more than one Patron at any time.
The current Patron of Girlguiding UK is Her Majesty the
Queen.
President
The Council may invite an individual to become the President of
Girlguiding UK. The president is an ex-officio voting member of
both the Council and the Executive Committee of the Council.
The current President of Girlguiding UK is Her Royal Highness
The Countess of Wessex.
Vice-President
The Executive Committee may invite up to ten people
to be Vice-Presidents of Girlguiding UK, on the nomination of any
member of the Council through the Chief Guide. Any member of the
Council may make a nomination for a Vice-President to the Chief
Guide. The Executive Committee considers the nomination and
notifies the Council of its decision.
Chief Guide
The Chief Guide is the lead volunteer of Girlguiding UK.
She:
- must be a female member aged between 18 and 65
- is invited to undertake the role by the Council for a period of
five years, according to the terms laid down by the Council
- is a trustee of Girlguiding UK
- is an ex-officio voting member of the Council and of the
Executive Committee of the Council.
Deputy Chief
Guide
The Council may appoint one or more Deputy Chief Guides.
A Deputy Chief Guide:
- must be a female member aged between 18 and 65
- is invited to undertake the role by the Council on the
nomination of the Chief Guide for a term that does not extend
beyond the finishing date of the Chief Guide’s appointment
- an ex-officio voting member of the Council and of the Executive
Committee of the Council.
A Deputy Chief Guide may be invited to continue by the Council
on the nomination of the incoming Chief Guide for a further period
that does not extend beyond the finishing date of the Chief Guide’s
role.
Association
Adviser/Coordinator
In order to meet the strategic aims of Girlguiding UK, the Chief
Guide may invite individuals to take on the role of Association
Adviser or Coordinator for a specific area.
An Association Adviser/Coordinator:
- must be a female member aged between 18 and 65
- is invited to undertake the role by the Chief Guide, to
specialise in any subject relevant to Girlguiding UK
- must have completed the relevant recruitment procedure
- has a term of office of three years
- may continue for a further period of up to two years if invited
to do so.
The term ‘Association Adviser/Coordinator’ includes the
International Commissioner who:
- advises the Chief Guide and Girlguiding UK about WAGGGS and other aspects of
international Guiding
- develops the international aspects of the section
programmes
- maintains links with the member organisations of WAGGGS and the
World Bureau.
Treasurer
The Treasurer of Girlguiding UK:
- is encouraged to be a member of Girlguiding UK
- is appointed by the Council for an initial term of five
years
- must be willing to support the aim of Girlguiding UK and abide
by its policies
- is a trustee of Girlguiding UK
- is an ex-officio voting member of the Council and of the
Executive Committee of the Council
- may be reappointed annually, although the appointment will not
normally exceed ten years in total.
