Public liability arising out of ownership of
guiding buildings or non-owned buildings while being used for
guiding activities is covered.
When letting Association buildings to other parties it is
important to obtain proof of their Public Liability insurance.
Depot insurance
Cover should be arranged for stock and money, as the goods
ordered are the depot's responsibility from delivery until
sale. If a depot is being run from home, this is a material fact
and the household insurer should be informed of it and cover can be
arranged through a special scheme with Girlguiding UK's insurance service.
Buildings, Contents &
Equipment
The Local Management Committee, Trustees or
Commissioners must ensure that all buildings, equipment and other
property and assets are adequately covered. This is available
through Girlguiding UK's insurance
service who can also advise you on how to calculate the right
values of your buildings and contents for insurance purposes.
Hiring out venues to third
parties
If you wish to let your property out to other organisations or
to private individuals, you should ask them to complete an
Undertaking to Indemnify
form (Hirer's Agreement). This asks them to have their own
Public Liability cover in place to protect you if they cause damage
or injury. If they do not have their own Public Liability, either
through their organisation or under a private policy, you should
warn them that, if they cause damage to the Association's property,
you may be able to claim against them personally.
