The Association has arranged a scheme for members and
non-members for individual and group travel, and can also offer
annual travel cover.
This is available through Unity insurance services. The cover extends to
include all recognised guiding activities.
Persons participating in adventurous activities organised by
other associations should ensure that the activities are recognised
guiding activities in the UK.
The policy includes cancellation and curtailment, travel delay,
missed departure, death and accident, medical and emergency
expenses, personal property, equipment, loss of passport, personal
public liability and legal expenses.
Overseas trips involving
volunteer work
Where members are going abroad to undertake volunteer or
charity-type work such as painting, decorating, gardening etc, the
following restrictions apply:
- the activities being carried out must fall under the
jurisdiction of Girlguiding UK in the UK
- the activities must be suitable for the age group and there
must be adequate supervision as required by Girlguiding UK's
policies
- all equipment being used by the members must be safe and
suitable for the task
- no work must be carried out on ladders or scaffolding over
three metres high; girls may work in buildings on upper floors, but
not on ladders or scaffolding outside buildings over three metres
high
- all medical immunisations and advice must be taken prior to and
during the trip
- mental health exclusion.
Any other tasks, which are suggested by the host organisation
and which are not recognised Girlguiding UK activities and have not
had a risk assessment carried out, should not be undertaken unless
the host holds adequate insurance which covers the group. If there
is any doubt about an activity it should not be undertaken.
The travel insurance department at Girlguiding UK's insurance
service should be advised of any trips of this
type.
