In cases of inappropriate behaviour
Girlguiding UK may suspend young members or adult members from
membership using the appropriate suspension process. From time to
time there may be disagreements between adult members. It is
expected that these can be settled amicably by the District, Division or
County Commissioner, as appropriate.
If necessary a Commissioner can give an
informal warning. This step must be taken in consultation with the
County Commissioner. If necessary, a formal warning can be issued
by a County Commissioner in cases when an issue has not been
settled amicably by the informal warning.
If the situation is still not resolved, the
County Commissioner in consultation with her Chief Commissioner
will instigate the Refusal and Restriction of Girlguiding UK Roles
process.
If an individual disagrees with the outcome
after this process has been followed they have the right of appeal
through the Chief Commissioner. Notification to appeal must be made
in writing to the Chief Commissioner within 28 days of the decision
or determination.
The appeal process is overseen by a panel of
three experienced members of Girlguiding UK. The Chief Guide is
responsible for nominating the Chairperson of the panel. This is
normally a Chief Commissioner or former Chief Commissioner from a
Country/Region not linked to the individual concerned. The
Chairperson nominates the other panel members in consultation with
the Chief Guide. The panel’s decision is final.
Exceptions to the process arise:
- when immediate action is needed to protect
the safety of a young member
- as a result of information contained on a
criminal record Disclosure, or at the request of Children’s
Services or the police.
