Events that don't require a licence

Many units do not have a Leader who holds or is working towards a licence through the Training Opportunities: Camp and Holiday Scheme. There are still many ways to offer residential experiences to girls.

Here are some ideas:

  • Link up with another unit where there is a licence holder and take your girls away together.
  • Check the Girlguiding UK website for events that your girls could participate in, such as international camps in the UK
  • Training and Activity Centres - check the website of your local Training and Activity Centre to see what events are coming up where no licence is required. Also see the Adventure Made Easy brochure, which lists the events coming up in 2011 and tells you if a licence is required.
  • County/Division/District events - camps, holidays and sleepovers may be coming up in your area for which you don't need a licence to take your girls along. Contact your Commissioner and/or Outdoor Activities Adviser to find out what events are being planned.
  • Put your girls in the lead and provide opportunities for Guides and Senior Section members to work towards their own camp permits; they can then be in charge of their own events: Guide Camp Permits, Senior Section Permits.
  • Guides can run their own Patrol sleepovers without a Permit or a Leader - see events run by Guides for details.
  • Senior Section members can go on Peer Residentials, where they can plan and run a residential event without a Licence, Permit or Leader - see events run by Senior Section members for details.
