Events run by Guides

Guides may work towards and gain permits to run, under certain conditions, overnights and camps without an adult Leader, or have a Patrol sleepover.

 

Patrol sleepovers – regulations

A Patrol sleepover may take place in the home of a Guide without a Leader being present, provided that:

  • two adults, at least one of whom is female, are present during the sleepover
  • the adult responsible completes a risk assessment and discusses the arrangements with a Leader and the Patrol Leader
  • the event does not last more than 24 hours
  • written permission is obtained from an adult with parental responsibility for each Guide taking part
  • A Residential Event Notification form is completed by the Leader arranging the sleepover, and is sent to the local Commissioner
  • the Leader obtains a completed Health Information form for each Guide and ensures the responsible adult has them during the sleepover.
 

Guide Camp Permit – regulations

Guide qualifications to run a camp

A Guide aged 13 who holds, or is working to gain, a Guide Camp Permit may run a camp for her Patrol or other small groups of Guides. This also applies to a Guide aged 12, provided that the camp is run alongside a unit camp.

Participants

The permit-holder may take three to five Guides with her provided that:

  • in addition to the permit-holder, at least one has camped before
  • all the Guides are members of the same unit.

Alternatively, the permit-holder may take up to seven Guides with her, provided that:

  • in addition to the permit-holder, at least two have camped before
  • the Guides are all members of her Patrol.

Other regulations

  • The site must be in private grounds within walking distance of an adult who has agreed to help if needed.
  • The site must be approved by the Leader and the appropriate Adviser.
  • The camp must last a maximum of three nights.
  • Written permission must be obtained from an adult with parental responsibility for each Guide for her to take part in the event.
  • Every person attending must complete a Health Information form.
  • Adventurous activities are not permitted unless they will be carried out in accordance with the regulations stated in the A to Z of activities and a Consent for Event/Activity form has been completed for each participant.
  • All appropriate Girlguiding UK rules and guidelines must be followed.
