The activities listed below are designated
non-guiding activities. This is either because adequate safety
requirements have not yet been developed or because Girlguiding UK
feels that the activity does not fit with the aims and objectives
of guiding.
Girlguiding UK’s insurance policies do not cover non-guiding
activities.
The following activities must not be
undertaken as guiding activities, check the individual pages for
alternative suggestions.
Bungee jumping is an activity that involves
jumping from a tall structure while connected to a large elastic
cord. The tall structure is usually a fixed object, such as a
building, bridge or crane; but it is also possible to jump from a
movable object, such as a hot air balloon or helicopter, that can
hover above the ground.
Go-karting and quad biking involve
riding/racing open four-wheeled vehicles. Go-karting and quad biking off road are
permitted.
Hang gliding is an air sport in which a pilot
flies a light and un-motorised foot-launchable aircraft called a
hang glider.
Hitch-hiking is a form of transportation by
which strangers are requested to provide free transportation for
all or part of a road journey.
Paintball is a sport in which players
eliminate opponents by hitting them with pellets containing paint
from a special gun called a paintball marker.
These are games in which players simulate a
war or battle situation using electronic devices to virtually fire
weapons at other players who are targets.
