Non-guiding activities

The activities listed below are designated non-guiding activities. This is either because adequate safety requirements have not yet been developed or because Girlguiding UK feels that the activity does not fit with the aims and objectives of guiding.


Girlguiding UK’s insurance policies do not cover non-guiding activities.

The following activities must not be undertaken as guiding activities, check the individual pages for alternative suggestions.

 

Bungee jumping

Bungee jumping is an activity that involves jumping from a tall structure while connected to a large elastic cord. The tall structure is usually a fixed object, such as a building, bridge or crane; but it is also possible to jump from a movable object, such as a hot air balloon or helicopter, that can hover above the ground.

 

Go-karting or quad biking on public roads

Go-karting and quad biking involve riding/racing open four-wheeled vehicles. Go-karting and quad biking off road are permitted

 

Hang gliding

Hang gliding is an air sport in which a pilot flies a light and un-motorised foot-launchable aircraft called a hang glider.

 

Hitch-hiking

Hitch-hiking is a form of transportation by which strangers are requested to provide free transportation for all or part of a road journey.

 

Paintball games

Paintball is a sport in which players eliminate opponents by hitting them with pellets containing paint from a special gun called a paintball marker.

 

Laser strike or virtual reality war games

These are games in which players simulate a war or battle situation using electronic devices to virtually fire weapons at other players who are targets.
