Activities involving moving across snow or simulated snow.

 

Forms

An Information and Consent for Event/Activity form is required to participate in this activity.

 

Who can participate?

Open to all.

 

Ratio of adults to girls

Normal ratios apply for activities away from the meeting place.   Guiding Manual ratios

 

Regulations

  • The Leader must ensure that all participants under the age of 18 have written permission to take part from an adult with parental responsibility.
  • The local Commissioner must be informed that the activity is taking place.
  • Carry out a risk assessment for the activity.
  • Skiing and snowboarding must take place on recognised pistes, dry ski slopes or prepared tracks.

For off-piste activities (such as sledging) the leader of the party must:

  • understand the responsibilities of leadership
  • have appropriate experience to be confident that the terrain is safe and suitable.

When using a commercial activity provider, ensure it is reputable. You can ask your local Outdoor Activities Adviser to recommend an approved provider.

 

Instructor qualifications

Instructors must hold the qualification appropriate to the activity and venue/terrain.

Useful information

It is good practice to use helmets for snowsports (and is mandatory in some countries).

Seek local advice on the terrain and liaise with an Outdoor Activities Adviser.

Be aware of land designated for wildlife and other environmental interests and avoid these areas where possible.
