Description
Fencing is a form of sword fighting, in which
the object is to touch your opponent with the blunted tip of the
sword. The person with the most hits is the winner.

An Information and Consent
for Event/Activity form is required to
participate in this activity.
Who can
participate?
Open to all.
Ratio of adults to
girls
Normal ratios for activities away from the
meeting place are required.
Guiding Manual ratios
Regulations
- The Leader must ensure that all participants
under the age of 18 have written permission to take part from an
adult with parental responsibility.
- The local Commissioner must be informed that
the activity is taking place.
- Carry out a risk
assessment for the activity.
- When using a commercial activity provider, ensure it is
reputable. You can verify the quality of a provider by checking it
has one of the following endorsements: AALA, Adventuremark or
LotC Quality Badge for Adventure.
Instructor
qualifications
Instructors for this activity should hold
either:
or should be a member of the BFA or BAF
and have the appropriate level of experience to lead the group
safely and effectively.
BFA – If participating in fencing at a
commercial activity centre, instructors may not be BFA-affiliated.
Where this is the case, ensure they have undergone in-house
training and are suitably skilled to lead the age-group taking
part.
Useful
information
All equipment must conform to the safety
requirements laid down by the British Fencing Association. The
instructor must check the condition of the equipment at the
beginning of each session.
Ensure that protective clothing is worn and is
the correct size for the participant.
